Great Design in the Chemical Industry
One of the greatest periods
of Swiss graphic design: the 1950s and 1960s. Geigy made one of the most important
Swiss contribution to the international history of design.
Background & Challenge: Advertising prescription medicines directly to consumers was prohibited at the time, most of Geigy´s advertising campaigns were targeted to the physicians who prescribe drugs.
Solution: Geigy addressed it using a new kit of graphic media; medical reports, brochures, promotional postcards, scientific publications with advertisement inserts, advertisements in trade journals and promotional gifts. Every campaing had a visual leitmotif and a slogan as well. That they ran like an unifiying thread through all the promotional materials in order to gain recognizability of the materials.
